The University of Toronto Biomedical Engineering Graduate Mentorship Program (BME GMP) is a student-led initiative dedicated to fostering meaningful connections between graduate student mentors and mentees within the BME community. Our program enhances the graduate experience by providing academic guidance, career support, and personal mentorship, while building a stronger sense of community among students.
Mentees are carefully paired with peer mentors based on their preferences and goals, as indicated in their applications or during discussions with the Mentorship Coordinator. Once matched, pairs are formally introduced at a program-wide meet-and-greet and onboarding session. From there, mentors and mentees coordinate regular meetings, supported by the Executive Committee throughout the year.
In addition to one-on-one mentorship, participants benefit from workshops and events featuring invited speakers on topics such as interpersonal and leadership skills, technical training, wet lab techniques, and strategies for navigating key academic milestones. These opportunities ensure that both mentors and mentees gain valuable skills and experiences that extend beyond their graduate studies.
