OPSA Book Talks Series #1 – Prof. Abdulhamit Kırmızı, Empire of Officials: Christians and Jews in the Ottoman Bureaucracy
Dear OPSA Members and Affiliates,
The Ottoman and Post-Ottoman Studies Student Association (OPSA) warmly invites you to the first event in our OPSA Book Talks series. We are delighted to host Prof. Abdulhamit Kırmızı for a virtual discussion of his recent book, Empire of Officials: Christians and Jews in the Ottoman Bureaucracy.
Professor Abdulhamit Kırmızı is a historian specialising in the late Ottoman Empire based at Marmara University. He is currently a research scientist at the ERC-funded CAPITALEAST project at UCD. His particular focus is on bureaucracy, governance, and intercommunal relations under imperial rule. The event will be of interest to students and scholars working on Ottoman history, post-Ottoman studies, bureaucracy, minorities, empire, and modern Middle Eastern and Balkan history.
The talk will take place on Thursday, 21 May 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. EST / 16:00 to 17:00 IST, via Zoom. Registration is available through the link below and the QR code on the poster.
We welcome OPSA members, affiliated faculty and students, and anyone interested in Ottoman and post-Ottoman studies to join us for this talk.
