Patient Zero Project (PZP) St George

The Patient Zero Project (PZP)

The Patient Zero Project (PZP) is a premier undergraduate student organization at the University of Toronto dedicated to bridging the gap between undergraduate life science education and real-world clinical practice through interactive, non-lecture-based learning.

We believe that the best way to prepare for a future in healthcare is by stepping out of the lecture hall and into the shoes of a practicing clinician.

What Members Can Expect:

  • Hands-On Clinical & Surgical Skills Workshops: Learn and practice tangible clinical skills, including physical examinations, diagnostic techniques, and surgical skills like suturing and knot-tying.
  • Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Case Studies: Collaborate with peers to diagnose medical cases from real-world, anonymized patient charts, working from initial symptoms to final treatment plans.
  • Medical Ethics Panels & Seminars: Engage in critical discussions regarding complex, modern ethical dilemmas in healthcare and clinical decision-making.
  • Professional Networking & Opportunities: Connect directly with University of Toronto faculty, hospital researchers, and practicing clinicians while gaining access to rare clinical volunteer opportunities and student initiative grants.

Whether you are pursuing medicine, dental school, nursing, clinical research, or simply have a passion for healthcare, PZP provides the community, tools, and hands-on exposure to help you succeed.
