Academic Speaker Event: Irish Americans and Imperial Violence, ca. 1900St George

March 20, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

In 1900, a secret cabal of Irish and Dutch San Franciscans conspired to bomb a Royal Navy base in British Columbia. Their plans were thwarted by a mysterious informant codenamed “Agent X”. Who were these plotters? What did they have against Canada? Who was Agent X? And what can this affair tell us about how Irish Americans perceived imperialism and Anglo-American rapprochement at the turn of the twentieth century?
