SUMMARY:Meningitis B Awareness and Vaccine Education
DESCRIPTION:We will conduct the educational outreach on the front campus lawn of the school on August 30th. \nMeningitis B is a serious bacterial infection affecting the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord. It can cause severe brain damage or be fatal within hours if not addressed promptly. Symptoms often start with flu-like signs but can rapidly progress to severe issues such as seizures\, sensitivity to light\, and a stiff neck.\nAs a university student\, especially when living in close quarters like residence halls\, protecting your health is crucial. Meningococcal B (MenB) is a significant concern because it can spread through saliva\, such as by sharing drinks\, utensils\, or kissing. Although MenB is not part of routine immunizations\, it poses a considerable risk in group living settings.\nVaccination is a critical step in safeguarding yourself and others. The MenB vaccine is safe and effective\, significantly reducing your risk of contracting this potentially deadly disease. To get vaccinated\, consult your healthcare provider for a prescription\, which can be filled at your local pharmacy or administered at a student wellness center. While the MenB vaccine isn’t publicly funded\, it is essential for protecting your health and preventing the spread of Meningitis B.\nMake sure to review your immunization status before the semester begins and consider getting the MenB vaccine if you’ll be living in a group setting. Don’t wait\n-take this important step to ensure your well-being and that of those around you.
