Cura AI UTM

Purpose

This initiative seeks to explore the dynamic intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and healthcare by fostering a community grounded in curiosity, ethical responsibility, and interdisciplinary learning. We aim to promote education, innovation, and critical dialogue around the evolving role of AI in medicine. Our goal is to empower students (whether from technical, biological, or clinical backgrounds) with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, develop, and responsibly implement AI technologies in healthcare. By bridging the gap between computation and clinical care, we prepare future healthcare leaders and technologists for the rapidly transforming landscape of modern medicine.

Educational Events

Guest Speaker Series

  • A recurring event featuring renowned professionals including AI researchers, medical data scientists, healthcare technology entrepreneurs, and physicians using AI in clinical practice. These talks will offer real-world insights into cutting-edge research, translational medicine, and the ethical implications of automation in healthcare.

Workshops

  • Introduction to AI and Machine Learning
A beginner-friendly session introducing core AI/ML concepts, types of algorithms, and how these are applied in healthcare settings.
  • AI in Radiology, Pathology, Surgery, Genomics, and Neuroscience
Domain-specific workshops demonstrating how AI is revolutionizing various medical disciplines; such as image recognition in radiology, digital biopsy in pathology, robotic assistance in surgery, gene expression prediction in genomics, and brain mapping in neuroscience.
  • Basic Coding for AI in Healthcare
A hands-on coding series designed to teach foundational programming skills using Python, with projects tailored to medical applications (e.g., image classification of tumors, building simple diagnostic models).
  • Ethics and Bias in Healthcare Algorithms
A critical exploration of the ethical dimensions of AI – highlighting issues like racial and gender bias in clinical algorithms, data privacy, algorithmic transparency, and the need for equity in AI-based healthcare delivery.

Themes

  • Neural Mapping
Examining how AI helps decode and visualize brain activity for research and clinical purposes.
  • Mental Health
Exploring how AI tools assist in early detection, monitoring, and support for mental health conditions.
  • Oncology/Cancer
Highlighting how AI is improving cancer care through early detection, diagnostic imaging, treatment planning, and personalized medicine. AI is also used to analyze genetic data, predict outcomes, and support clinical decision-making in oncology.
