Hungarian Language and Culture Students Association St George

The Hungarian Language and Culture Student Association or A Magyar Nyelv és Kultúra Diákszövetség, University of Toronto’s first Hungarian student-led community, aims to promote diversity within our academic institution by creating a space on campus for students of Hungarian heritage (or interested in it) to practice language skills and celebrate in shared culture. The Hungarian language itself is part of the Finno-Ugric linguistic group, making it an independent and distinct language when compared to neighbouring Central and Eastern European states. By creating a student-led we are providing students with the opportunity to learn about and share in our unique art, language, history, and cuisine.

Within this club students will be developing their knowledge of Hungarian culture through demonstration, discussion, and guest speakers. In addition, we aim to provide the opportunity for students to strengthen and reinforce language skills.

Through our association we welcome all students, regardless of heritage or linguistic background, to share in activities which display Hungary’s rich and historied culture and language through group activities such as folk crafts, embroidery, dance, film, games, and music.
