The Balance Sheet is a University of Toronto student club focused on building financial literacy through a hands-on, game-based learning experience.
Members participate in a structured, semester-long simulation where they play as a character representing their future adult self. In weekly meetings, members make ongoing decisions about income, spending, saving, debt, investing, and lifestyle choices. Each meeting builds on the previous one, allowing members to see how financial decisions compound over time.
The club is designed to help students understand personal finance concepts in a practical and accessible way. Meetings are guided, interactive, and low pressure, with an emphasis on learning by doing rather than lectures or exams. No prior knowledge of finance is required.
The Balance Sheet is open to all University of Toronto students from any academic background. Members are encouraged to attend weekly meetings so they can fully engage with the continuous simulation and learning experience.
