The InterGen Learning Shed is an intergenerational, community-based initiative at the University of Toronto Mississauga. Grounded in the belief that both youth and elders hold valuable knowledge, stories, and strengths, we create spaces where learning and connection flow in all directions!
Through partnerships with senior homes and other community institutions, we bring seniors and undergraduate students together—on campus and in shared community spaces—through collaborative projects, conversation, and play.
Rooted in a constructivist approach, learning happens through shared action: participants build, create, and play together, and through that process come to conversation and understanding. In building things together, participants also build identity: as contributors, learners, and members of a shared community. Our goal is to foster lasting belonging and connection within and between generations.
