University of Toronto Autonomous Drone Racing Team (UTADR) is a passionate group of roboticists, drone enthusiasts, consisting both graduate and undergraduate engineering students. Our mission is to innovate and lead in the world of autonomous drone racing using cutting-edge AI technologies.
We focus on developing first-person-view (FPV) drones equipped with onboard sensors and computers, designed to autonomously navigate complex environments and race through gates in record time. This challenge demands the integration of advanced AI-driven perception, localization, planning, and control algorithms. Our team competes in international autonomous drone racing competitions and contributes to the scientific community by publishing research papers in top-tier journals and conferences.
UTADR operates at the Flight System & Control Lab (FSC) and the Learning Systems and Robotics Lab (LSY), the University of Toronto Institute of Aerospace Studies (UTIAS) MarsDome, Myhal Centre for Engineering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, using facilities such as the motion capture system, 3D printers, and GPU clusters.
We are committed to fostering a community of students with a shared interest in autonomous drones. By joining UTADR, you’ll engage in hands-on projects, collaborate with experts in the field, and help push the boundaries of AI and drone technology. Whether you’re new to drone racing or an experienced enthusiast, we welcome you to be a part of this exciting journey.
