Winter Break

During the University’s winter break, student group leaders may apply for student group recognition, request edits to existing student groups, and submit and edit events and opportunities, but University staff will not be available to review applications and edit requests, nor to provide support, from Monday, December 23 until Monday, January 6. Best wishes for a safe, happy, and healthy holiday season!

Women’s Advocacy and Outreach St George

The Women’s Advocacy and Outreach (WAO) organization at the University of Toronto welcomes proactive, passionate self-identifying women who are committed to making a tangible difference in women’s issues worldwide. We provide an inclusive space where women can actively contribute and gain hands-on experience in effecting positive change within our school community, the greater Toronto area, and globally.

At WAO, we believe in the power of collaboration and collective action. Our organization is divided into two councils—the Advocacy Council and the Outreach Council—to effectively address the diverse range of women’s issues that are important to our community. By fostering abundant opportunities for involvement at various levels, we strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone who wishes to contribute can find their place. Our shared goal, women helping women, unites us as a community of like-minded, dedicated individuals, providing the necessary support and tools to create lasting change.

Over the past year, we successfully raised $1,500 for Period Purse, Canada’s only registered charity focused on ending period poverty and advocating for menstrual equity. Alongside this achievement, we hosted a self-defense workshop in partnership with Nellie’s Shelter and organized a hands-on period product packing event, furthering our commitment to empowering women and addressing urgent needs in our community.

As we move forward, we’re excited to continue making a meaningful difference by supporting our newly chosen charity, Aura Freedom International, which works to combat gender-based violence. We’re also eagerly preparing for our third annual Women Helping Women Convention in 2025. This event will bring together advocates, experts, and community members to inspire action and foster meaningful connections. It will serve as a platform to promote intersectional feminism, amplify marginalized voices, and drive forward the well-being of all marginalized genders.

Feel free to reach out to us at womensadvocacyoutreach@outlook.com with any questions or inquiries. Together, let us create a world where women thrive, empowered and supported by a united community.

Join the WAO community and be a part of the change we envision!
