About the UTSU Student Commons Volunteer Program:
The Student Commons Volunteer Program aims to provide opportunities for students to volunteer and support the UTSU’s Student Commons. Volunteers will be organizing and leading fun and creative activities to create community on campus. Volunteers can expect to develop skills through leadership activities along with delivering programming that is timely, relevant and most importantly fun!
Volunteer Opportunity:
- 15 volunteers needed to join our Student Commons Volunteer Program Team
- 25 hour minimum commitment for the winter term 2024 (expected time commitment is 2-4 hours a week)
- Volunteer support is needed each week for the execution of the activities
- Onboarding and training will be provided
- Co-Curricular Record recognition, reference letter and completion certificate will be provided upon the completion of 25 volunteer hours
- Supervision and mentoring will be provided by the Community Resource Specialist (CRS) lead from the UTSU’s Programs & Services Team

Key Volunteer Responsibilities and Role:
- Leading fun and interactive activities that will take place in the Student Commons
- Activity set-up, tabling, and clean-up
- Check-in and register students as they arrive for the activities
- Some lifting, bending and moving resources around
- Provide excellent customer service to all attendees
- Helping with promotion of UTSU programs and activities
- Work as part of a team of volunteers
- Attend monthly team meetings for briefing and additional training
- Report to CRS lead about the progress of each activity
- Maintain a safe, clean working environment and ensure that building rules and regulations are followed in light of COVID-19
About You:
- You are a full-time student at the University of Toronto St. George Campus
- Have a flexible schedule to organize and lead the activities
- Able to organize and conduct activities to keep students engaged
- You have excellent customer service skills
- You are able to work within a team and possess effective communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- You can apply an equity and inclusion lens to understand the various issues that impact students
