The Biomedical Engineering Students’ Association (BESA) is a student-run group whose mission is to enhance the BME graduate student experience within the University of Toronto. This is accomplished through organizing social, academic, professional, and community events, serving as the voice for the BME graduate student community, and engaging in initiatives to improve the student life of BME graduate students.
We organize Orientation week and social events to welcome incoming students and facilitate their transition into the BME community. Events such as Career Week and ongoing career panels in different fields aim to strengthen connections between students and alumni. Outreach programs (e.g. Science Rendez-Vous booths) and mentorship programs with undergraduate students aim to disseminate BME research and foster the next generation of biomedical engineers. Our annual research conference, which is supported by the faculty (Toronto Biomedical Engineering Conference), enables us to translate and further disseminate knowledge of the discipline.
