SOLACE is a student initiative focused on fostering a more supportive, balanced, and connected STEM community at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Centered around rehumanizing STEM culture, SOLACE aims to help decrease barriers to STEM involvement by making academic, professional, research, and community opportunities feel more accessible, welcoming, and approachable to students from all backgrounds and experience levels.
Through wellness-centered initiatives, mentorship, networking opportunities, research support, accessibility advocacy, creative expression, low-pressure socials, and honest conversations about the realities of STEM life, members can expect opportunities to build meaningful connections, explore new opportunities, engage with supportive peers and faculty, and participate in a community that values accessibility, balance, collaboration, and humanity alongside ambition and success.
By the end of the year, SOLACE hopes to establish a supportive and recognizable community within STEM at UTSC where students feel more connected, supported, and able to engage with academic, professional, research, and community opportunities in ways that feel accessible, balanced, and human-centered.
