Every year our team of dedicated students works to design, build and safely race a concrete toboggan at the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race. The toboggan is designed and built entirely by students, which not only provides a hands-on learning environment, but gives us an opportunity to proudly showcase the university at the largest national engineering design competition. As spirit is also judged in our competition, we challenge our creative side by developing a theme, making costumes, and participating in spirit challenges.
Concrete Toboggan provides lots of opportunities for young interested engineers to gain all kinds of practical experience. Team members put their design knowledge to the test on a real problems, and then participate in the construction, painting, building, sewing and more. The executive positions help to hone many valuable skills such as engineering design, budgeting, organization, scheduling, and giving formal presentations. On top of all this, it’s a great opportunity to meet similar minded students not just within your school but from schools all across the country.
