The University of Toronto Cantonese Debate and Culture Society (UTCDC) fosters a tight-knit community where students can exchange diverse perspectives on local and global issues. We aim to raise students’ consciousness, generate critical thinking, and develop communication and public speaking skills.
Throughout the academic year, UTCDC organises workshops, training sessions, and competitions to help students develop research skills, construct persuasive arguments, and enhance public speaking confidence. The Huron Cup tournament brings together teams from multiple universities across Ontario, creating a rare platform for Cantonese-speaking students to engage in rigorous intellectual exchange.
In the previous year, we have been collaborating with the University of Waterloo Cantonese Debate and Culture Society (UWCDCS), the Chinese Perspectives (Cantonese) at the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Ottawa Hong Kong Cultural Association (UOHKCA) on several debate competitions, allowing students to share their views and make connections with the judges and professionals.
