Start2Finish UTM (S2FUTM) fosters development opportunities in partnership with nonprofit organization Start2Finish (S2F).
Start2Finish is a national nonprofit that works with elementary school students in over 70 communities experiencing poverty across Canada, offering free after school running & reading clubs that focus on physical activity, literacy development and social emotional-learning. “Our mission is to break the cycle of child poverty by providing ongoing educational support to Canada’s at-risk children throughout their school years, nurturing mind, body and social health so they are empowered to succeed and become role models for change. Our vision is to eradicate the effects of child poverty in Canada.”
Here at UTM, we aim to promote the cause of Start2Finish and facilitate the volunteer application process through hosting interactive workshops, information sessions, and outreach events–including but not limited to, tabling, distribution of promotional guides and materials highlighting students’ ability to lead programs at Start2Finish. In engaging with the community, S2FUTM provides networking opportunities with connections outside of campus–collaborating with nonprofit organization Start2Finish and public schools across Canada–inviting undergraduate involvement in leading reading, writing, running and literacy programs for younger students (Grades 1-6).
