The Innisian Assembly, shortened simply to ‘The Assembly’, is a politics and world issues club based in Innis College that is open to all University of Toronto students! In The Assembly, members will be provided a platform for…
- Discussing past, present and future politics.
- Hone debate skills through low-stakes, fun-over-victory style debate activities and events.
- In-club debate simulations based upon real or fictionalized political events.
- Learning to discuss and reason with politics with a more critical and reasonable view, with a focus on cooperation.
- Events such as watching elections or other screenings relevant to world politics.
In The Innisian Assembly, all perspectives – sans those involving unreasonable or exceptional hatred – are accepted as we look at the world of politics and discuss the world going on around us. As well, debate is viewed less as a competition and more as an opportunity to improve public speaking skills, confidence, critical thinking skills, ability to deliver arguments and also to have fun arguing with friends from time to time. Furthermore, the Innisian Assembly is not only open to anyone at the University of Toronto, but also any student at University of Toronto regardless of program, not just social science students.
