The purpose of Food For Thought is dedicated to promoting nutrition literacy among UTSC students and the broader community to set students up for success. Our goal is to empower individuals to make informed dietary choices by providing practical skills and nutritional education grounded in Canada’s Food Guide. The primary purpose of Food For Thought is to address the rising rates of preventable health conditions such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic illnesses through accessible, engaging, and educational programming. Our specific objectives include:
- Raising awareness about the importance of balanced and nutritious eating in school and for the broader Scarborough community
- Educating students on nutritional literacy skills such as how to plan meals and grocery shop effectively
- Connect with community organizations to raise awareness for food literacy and health equity.
Through our initiatives, we hope to foster a campus culture that values nutrition and equipping students with lifelong skills for maintaining their health and well-being. By demystifying the process of healthy eating and making it fun, we aim to create a lasting impact on student lifestyle habits benefiting both physical health and academic performance.
